Allie-Explains-it-All-836x224.png

Dive into the nitty gritty of managing events with two people who know it better than anybody else. Allie Magyar is a 15+ year events industry veteran and founder / CEO of Hubb. Jamie Timperley is CEO of Dynamic Events, an experiential marketing and events company that manages some of the world's largest tech conferences. Allie was just named a Top Influential Women Entrepreneur by Smart Meetings and Jamie was recently listed as one Connect Corporate's 40 Under 40 for 2016. They know events. And in this episode, which you can watch below, they're dishing on event content strategy and venue planning.

Here are five key takeaways from the second episode* of Allie Explains It All.

On determining your session types...

Consider what your session mix will be. In your analysis of last year's event, dive into the data on what types of sessions people liked most. Also think about how your attendees like to learn. Do they want to sit in a room with somebody speaking to them for 75 minutes? Do they want shorter interactive sessions?

On figuring out your venue's maximum "butts in seats" capacity...

A common mistake is to not account for AV vendors when determining session capacity (and then scramble to find space for them). When figuring your capacity, plan to set aside 30% of your space for AV.

On having a clear and focused Call for Content...

Be really clear with what you're looking for with your call for content. You don't want potential speakers wasting time putting together something that's not what you're looking for.

On the importance of developing a strategy before putting out your Call for Content...

You want to get valuable submissions, so make sure you’re taking the time to think through and develop your strategy and structure before you start running with your call for content. Make your call for content as specific as possible to what you’re looking for.

On innovating...

Innovate! Try something new every year and don't be nervous to going outside the tried and true. Try mixing up your session types. And don't forget to get onsite attendee feedback on your innovations so you can refine them for next year.

Watch the six-minute video for additional and expanded insights and be sure to check back in April for the next episode of Allie Explains It All. Have a question you'd like to see answered in a future episode? Leave it in the comments and you might see Allie address it in a future episode!

* Looking for Episode 1? Don't bother; it's not online. It didn't turn out well, so we've hidden it away in a government facility along with a complete Bigfoot skeleton, the Ark of the Covenant, and an alien spaceship from Area 51.
